Frequently Asked Questions about Psycho-Educational Evaluations
What is a Psycho-Educational evaluation?
A Psycho-Educational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment used to determine the strengths and weaknesses in an individual. The results can be used for educational program planning and making determinations for what is needed for the success of everyday learning in the classroom.
Who completes the comprehensive evaluation?
A certified Learning Consultant and School Psychologist assess both the strengths and weaknesses of students from the age of three and up. Using a variety of testing tools such as the Woodcock Johnson IV, Achievement and Cognitive Batteries, Wechsler Individualized Academic Test, Weschler Scales, Stanford-Binet, Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Connors Rating Scales for ADHD, and other standardized tests. Professionals will find any learning disability that may be present. The team will collaboratively write a report with their findings, diagnosis, and recommendations that can be used in the classroom and at home. Follow-up may include IEP and academic program planning.
How long will it take?
The evaluation is broken into two to three sessions which can last anywhere between one and a-half to two and a-half hours.
When should I expect to receive the results of the psycho-educational evaluation?
Once the testing is complete, the evaluators require a few days to complete the report. At this time, a follow-up meeting is conducted and the results and recommendations are shared with the parents. School related personnel are also invited to meet.
Should I wait for my district to test?
Your district may or may not feel that testing is warranted. Deciding to wait for your district can take months. The benefit of conducting an outside evaluation is that any question/concerns you may have as a parent, can be answered within weeks.
